| Notes for biography |
Anecdote : An odd aside is that in 1887 WP Dunk gave Billy a watch. It was a gent's gold hunting keyless chronograph with an inscription on the inside of the back case 'W.P.Dunk to W.A.S Blue, in kind remembrance, 1887'. It had a gold curb albert and fine links attached. We not know what Billy had done to prompt this gift but it it must have been something exceptional because the watch would have been of considerable value. It might have been around the time that he and Kitty were leaving Strathalbyn but it seems to have been personal to Blue from Dunk rather than general acknowledgement from the Strathalbyn Council, for example. William Peter Dunk was a civic minded businessman and freemason from Milang - a huge man said to be the tallest in the state. It seems that Billy's eldest son inherited the watch but it was stolen in 1902 from the home of Walter J Gollin in NSW. (ref : NSW Police Gazette, 10th Dec 1902, p 481)
